Finalists at the Scottish Design Awards 2025
NM Design Studio is proud to share that The Auction Rooms project has been named a finalist in the Commercial / Office / Hotel Building Project category at the Scottish Design Awards 2025, recognising excellence in commercial and workplace design across Scotland.
The project involved the transformation of a historic Edinburgh building into a contemporary, high-end workspace, delivered in collaboration with Studio LBA, who led the architectural design. NM Design Studio was appointed to deliver an integrated approach spanning brand identity, web design, interior design and spatial experience, ensuring the architectural vision was carried through into the way the space looks, feels and functions on a day-to-day level.
Rather than imposing a new aesthetic, the design process centred on working with the building’s existing character. Original features were retained and celebrated, while modern interventions were carefully introduced to support flexible working, collaboration and everyday usability. Branding and interiors were developed in parallel, allowing the visual identity to inform material choices, atmosphere and wayfinding throughout the space.
The Commercial / Office / Hotel Building Project category recognises schemes that successfully balance design quality, functionality and user experience. Being named a finalist reflects the strength of a collaborative approach - one where architecture, brand and interior design work together to create a cohesive and experience-led environment.
Reaching finalist stage alongside a strong field of Scottish practices marks an important milestone for NM Design Studio and highlights the role that integrated, multidisciplinary design can play in shaping meaningful commercial spaces.
The Auction Rooms continues to stand as a reference point for how heritage buildings can be thoughtfully reimagined for contemporary work, and this recognition celebrates the collective contribution of all parties involved in bringing the project to life.
